Pride month is here again, and Rome will be participating with a number of events dedicated to the local LGBTQ+ community of the city as well as their allies in the capital!
For those visiting during these first few days of June, the main event will be of course the 25th yearly Rome Pride, taking place on June 8.
Floats and paraders will convene on Piazza della Repubblica at around 3PM on Saturday. However the actual rally will begin at 4PM and will be followingthis route:
Piazza della Repubblica –> Piazza dei Cinquecento –> Via Cavour –> Piazza dell’Esquilino –> Via Liberiana –> Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore –> Via Merulana –> Via Labicana –> Piazza del Colosseo –> Largo Corrado Ricci –> Piazza della Madonna di Loreto (at the end of Viale dei Fori Imperiali)
As is tradition, travelers wanting to take part in the march can do so either at the very start or joining it at any of the landmarks mentioned above. We recommend bringing hats, water and comfortable shoes (the Pride in Rome is best experienced dancing behind one of the floats!).
The Rome Pride is not the only major occurrence during Pride month: tourists visiting at this time may want to hit some of the city’s main hangouts, like the Largo Venue in the Pigneto district, which will be hosting a number of events for what has been already dubbed “The Gay Croisette“.
More fun nights out will take place on the so-called Gay Street, the stretch of Via San Giovanni in Laterano wedged between the Colosseum and our very own Casa Isabella al Colosseo.
And because this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, which marked the birth of the LGBTQ+ rights movement in the U.S., more events will be celebrating this groundbreaking moment: conferences, movie screenings, exhibitions (“Queer Pride” a group exhibition featuring 165 different participants), concerts and more! A continuously updated calendar can be browsed at this page (website in Italian).
