Life at From Home to Rome

So, you’ve seen the new site, appreciated the new pictures for the properties we manage at From Home to Rome and you’ve learned all about us: still, you’ve got questions. Like: are these houses our own? Are we an agency? Well, no – on both counts. We like to think of what we do at FHTR as something we created as the uniquely Italian response to an uniquely Italian concern.

What we do, in a nutshell

By the early 2000s, an increasing number of Roman residents in the areas around the main landmarks of the city started moving out to less central locations (living in a listed building in a UNESCO heritage site has obvious advantages, but many of these people started wishing for simpler parking rules. Or, you know, elevators!). At the same time, they didn’t feel comfortable with renting out properties that have been in their families – in many instances – for centuries.

That’s where we come in. We have intercepted many of these homeowners’ desires and succeeded in defusing their worries by dealing with their exact needs. As From Home to Rome, we manage and clean these owners’ flats or villas, and we handle all accounting and all small repairs, either it’s painting a wall or a pipe that needs repairing.

What you see when you decide to stay in one of these accommodation is the owners’ personal touch: the paintings, appliances, furniture is what they want for themselves. They leave their own collections of records or books for you to enjoy, and ask you to please care about their plants! The whole time, they remain in charge: they can go back to their apartments whenever they wish to. We decide together when and how to rent their estates, either to tourists or expats looking for something longer; more importantly, we share any and all earnings by following personalised rates.

And we are there for them: we can answer all their questions, listen to their necessities, recommend the best course of action – whether it’s in our best interest or not, because first and foremost we keep it personal, as we care about these people, their houses and the memories they contain.
