Antonio Da Sangallo was already a star architect when he chose an empty lot on nascent Via Giulia to build his own house on: he had already designed Saint Peter’s Basilica and Palazzo Farnese in Rome (among others), Saint Patrick’s well in Orvieto and the Old Fortress in Livorno.
He never got to set foot in his last work, his most personal one: but you can!
Palazzo Sacchetti is one of the jewels of Renaissance architecture on astounding Via Giulia: part of its servants’ quarters has been converted into a luxury apartment, which is the latest addition to our portfolio of managed accommodations.
Dubbed Via Giulia 69 (not to be confused with the nearby Via Giulia flat, also managed by From Home to Rome), this apartment can sleep up to six people, and is located on a fifth floor which, for obvious artistic and historical reasons, cannot be fitted with an elevator. There are 55 steps in total in the building, plus an extra 10 from the entrance door of the flat to its rooms: please keep this in mind if you or someone in your party have a walking disability.
As with many other accommodations in the same area, a renovation project has taken great care in highlighting some of the original elements from this majestic building as well as providing modern comforts to a contemporary occupant: so by staying on Via Giulia 69 you can enjoy a fully-equipped kitchen, a smart TV system, independent heating, a free Wi-Fi connection and A/C… and more!
Plus, the sleeping quarters are separated, with the master bedroom on the opposite side of the house: a discrete solution for families traveling together while wanting to maintain their privacy. Speaking of peace and quiet, the apartment overlooks the inner courtyard of Palazzo Sacchetti, which means plenty more tranquility for your Roman stays!
